"Feedback on First admission to Kingsmill 20th..."

About: King's Mill Hospital

Following referral from my doctor to the gynocology dept at Kingsmill I attended the Ultrasound dept, saw a consultant who referred me for a hysteroscopy and biopsy, saw another consultant who then referred me for surgery.I then has continuous care from my surgeon through pre to post operative care for a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy due to severe anaemia and fibroids. I was really impressed with the speed in which I was seen, the professional and understanding manner demonstrated by all of the teams throughout and the information and pre op care given to me through physiotherapy sessions During my Pre-Operative appointment it was really helpful to meet my surgeon and for him to explain the potential risks of the operation. As this was the first time I had undergone any operation I was naturally quite nervous on the day of my operation but the whole team on ward 14 were really helpful and kind. The surgical team were very diligent with pre-op questions and this helped me as I had been unsure of potential anaesthetic complications due to my Asthma. My operation went really well with no complications and my surgeon explained this to me. I found it really touching that he empathised with the impact that the symptoms I had experienced had on my life and how they would now improve as they had a massive effect on my ability to function both on a physical and personal level. The nursing team who cared for me were also brilliant, they made sure I was aware of all treatment they were giving me and why.As it was snowing at the time a lot of the nursing staff were unable to get in to work but despite being operationally challenged they prioritised according to risk, worked together as a team brilliantly and still managed to make me feel fantastically well cared for. I was discharged from hospital after 3 days.As it was a Saturday unfortunately I had to wait 7 hrs for my prescription pain killers to be processed.I wasnt asked to leave my room so fortunately this hadnt had an impact on any admission on that day. I attended my Post Op check 8 weeks later feeling a million times better than before the operation. It was really nice to be able to demonstrate to my surgeon what a difference the work that he does can make! All of my friends and colleagues have commented on how poorly I must have felt prior to my op as I now seem so much better! I was discharged from hospital after my Post Operative check feeling really priveledged for the care shown to me at all limes. As a Finance and Operations Manager for a Major Retailer one of my accountabilities is Service and I understand the importance of feedback in order to maintain this. I feel really priveledged to have been under the care of the Gynocological team at Kings Mill, in particular for the professional, compasionate and skillful care of my surgeon who has enabled me to return to work after 6 weeks. They should all realise that they are trully appreciated for their impact on my life.
