"No help when we were in the Hospital "

About: Royal Hospital for Sick Children (Yorkhill) / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

Our son has very complex health problems. Taken to A&E Yorkhill, requiring high flow oxygen and struggling to breath. Hypothermic.

Left with no nursing support for 5 hours waiting for admission to ward. No support or treatment given for hypothermia; child having spells when settled & spells when struggling to breath.

Child's dad went to find nurse but could only find nurse asleep at nurses desk. Child given no medication or fluids, despite staff being told he had been able to tolerate feeds for previous 12 hours. No investigations conducted.

When parents asked for support and help explaining they had been up for over 24 hrs told it was parents' not staff's responsibility to care for child. On leaving ward staff seen sitting in a group laughing and joking with feet up on chair.
