"Lack of care and consideration for the patient"

Anything else?

My mother recently suffered a stroke and was taken to PRU, although her closet hospital is University Hospital Croydon. She was admitted to the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit and had extremely good care taken of her. We were told that at some time she would need to be repatriated and transferred to University Hospital Croydon, this was accepted. Where this went wrong was the actual transfer and the lack of thought and care displayed bt PRU. At 17:30 Croydon confirmed they had a bed and that my mother could be transferred, however this was not communicated to her next of kin until 19:00 when an evening visitor phoned us. Immediately I spoke to the hospital stating that as my mother is 93 and confused this would be traumatic and upsetting. I was told that as the ambulance was on its way nothing could be done, and if she did not go to Croydon then she would lose the allocated bed. I asked for a manager to contact me, I am still waiting for this call over 12 hours later. Numerous calls were made to the managers office with no answer. In fact I was lied to, the ambulance was not on its way as it did not actually turn up until 21:30, and did not actually arrive at Croydon until gone 22:00. Having spoken with Croydon this morning, I have been told that no discharge notes werevtransferred with my mother and in fact was asked to confim my contact details as those passed by Farnborough were incorrect; as was the date of birth passed to Croydon for my mother. In short Farnborough showed a total lack of consideration to the patient's wishes and the distress they caused a 93 year old woman. I have requested that the Chief Executives office at Farnborough contacts me to discuss the lack of care shown to a patient. However, I will not be holding my breath as they will undoubtedly show the same lack of professionalism that the management team have shown to date.
