"Good and Bad review 2 seperate visits"

About: Kettering General Hospital

Anything else?

I had my first operation in the Treatment Centre on 20th September 2012, and I was very satisfied with the way that I was treated and the way all staff behaved, ensuring i was fully aware of what was happening and putting my fears into context considering I had never had aneasthetis and had a rare allergy to a certain medication. The whole team were very supportive, and for the surgeon and theatre staff to come and see me after the procedure to see I was ok was a lovely touch, I had nothing but praise for all concerned. My second visit on 11th April was a total reverse of the above. Most of the nursing staff were very sloppy with their procedures, nothing was explained to me, and the fact that my file had been mislaid left me very conerned. The aneasertist was not happy about the fact that my file was missing and up until the last minute was not going to carry out the procedure due to this. I was very frightened with the added concern that I have this allergy and he wasnt taking this on board, and dismissed it as a problem. within 5 minutes of being told I was not to be operated on until the file was found, I found myself going to theatre without it. I had nothing explained to me and I was very frightened. I also witnesses another (elderly) patient who was very distressed being spoken to inappropriately by staff. On discharge I was given no pain relief not even to tied me over the night and was told to go to my GP even though I was not to drive for 48 hrs, and my discharge letter to my GP stated Left shoulder not right shoulder which was operated on. On being collected by my family, my family were told I had already left, and I obviously hadnt. I cant believe that I have had two totally different experiences in the same place. I am glad I had the pleasent experience first as I would have not returned to this hospital again, and would have asked to be referred elsewhere. I am returning to the hospital today to hepefully be discharged, I do hope that my file has been found on this visit.
