I has a c section in March 2013. The operation and recovery teams were excellent. I was transferred tks Edith ward. There was four beds in the room although I believe it was originally designed for two. It was very cramped. Because I was a first time mum and I was having difficulties breastfeeding airlines asked for someone to come and show me how to do ignored correctly. I also asked to be shown how no bathe the baby. I did not receive any help with either of those even though I told them I had sore nipples. in fact I was crying every time I had to feed the baby. I had have a blood transfusion. I already had a cannula in my had which a nurse inspected and said was fine and that it would be used for the transfusion. Another nurse came. She took the cannula out. Put another one up in my arm and started the transfusion. Straight away I noticed a burning sensation and told the nurse and the midwife who was present. I was told to not silly that I should not be feeling a thing. After about 15 minutes I looked down and saw that my arm ballooned and was red. Apparently the blood was pooling under my skin. The nurse was unapologetic and acted as if this was everyday occurrence. After four unsuccessful tries of putting another line in my husband stepped in and said that that was enough. A junior doctor managed to put the line in . After three days I had enough and I requested to be discharged. While waiting for the notes a member of staff told me that I had Strep b which meant that I should have antibiotic drip during my section in order to minimise the baby getting infection. I also had UTI and would need antibiotics. Both tests were performed prior to my admittance to hospital which means they had the results and should have planned my care accordingly. I had the feeling that they only looked at my records at the point of discharge. I would not advice anyone for give birth there.
