"A little effort goes a long way"

About: Broomfield Hospital

Anything else?

I broke my hand and had to go for surgery at Broomfield hospital. The initial consultation at the fracture clinic was top notch. I was seen quickly, diagnosed quickly and told about my condition by a surgeon.I was advised to go for surgery. I was very impressed when I was given a surgery date for the very next day. However, I was left underwhelmed by the whole surgery experience. To start with, the surgery was performed by a different surgeon than the one who initially diagnosed and recommended surgery. I was not told what would be done as a part of the surgery. It was assumed that the previous surgeon would have done this. The operating surgeon did not bother to meet and have a word with me pre or post surgery. Consequently I never saw him since I was anesthetized for the surgery. I found this very puzzling that a operating surgeon never once interacts with the patient. I was told what was done in the surgery by a ward doctor based on the notes only when requested. What is worse is that the post-op follow up in 2 weeks will be with a completely different surgeon and thus no continuity. Finally, a new policy means no discharge letter to state what was done; this now needs to be collected from the GP. PS: The ward staff were absolutely fantastic.
