My 18 month old girl got reffered to Ipswich hospital in september 2012, after blood tests they found she had decreased liver function, her consultant rang my husband and said she needed to retake the test to be sure and have another appointment with the consultant to disguss treatment options, the test also showed she was very aneamic and had to start taking iron suppliments. My daughter retook the blood test but there was no appointment made to disguss the matter further so we as worried parents were left in the dark! I rang the department numerous times to discuss the matter and couldnt get through to anyone. Prior to the second blood test my daughter cut her head on a coffee table, we took her to Ipswich A&E department where they glued her head back together. Eighteen days after her accident, a lot of blood loss and numerous trips back and forth to the hospital for them to glue it three more times they then referred her to plastics department for her to have surgery on her head, because she was not healing properly which could be because of her decreased liver function and aneamia. Twenty five days after her accident and still not a word about her referral, her huge scab and glue came away from her head and has left her with a lot of ugly scar tissue and an infection! No one from the A&E department bothered to check to see if her liver problem and aneamia had anything to do with her not healing. Its now four weeks after her accident and over a week after her second blood test and my daughter is now left with an awful scar and a bold patch on her head and we are still none the wiser about her plastics referral or about her liver problems! why did the A&E department decide to glue her head over and over and over again when it clearly was not working! My husband and I had to whitness my 18 month old girl get prodded and poked and get put through a lot of pain and distress to remove the glue to then reglue it again and again! A different option should have been offered to her sooner then maybe she wouldnt have been left with an awful scar and bald patch. Ipswich hospital does not communicate between departments or to the patient/parents about further care or treatment options. I have tried phoning the hospital to speak to her peadiatric consultant and peadiatric outpatients and i have yet got through to anyone. I have left messages for them to ring me back and nothing. I am disgusted that we still have no explaination about what is going on with my daughter and no care plan.
