"A mixed experience in labour ward"

About: Newham General Hospital

Anything else?

Went to newham general at 39 weeks pregnant and having had contractions for 12 hours, the midwife who saw me was lovely, she told me that I was only 2cm so I was going to have to go home but she did a membrane sweep to get things moving alo more quickly. On the drive back home my waters broke and my contractions got A LOT worse, went back to the hospital (at about 6) and saw a different midwife who if I'm honestly was terrible. She told me my waters had broken and it was just discharge and I would have to go home(I couldn't even stand up) she didn't even check to see of it was my waters (it was) or if I had dialated to 4cm. Anyway she said she was going to get something and come back so I was left on one of the two beds in the maternity assessment. She never came back, another midwife turned up and they had no idea who I was or why I was there, however this new midwife was fantastic, she could see I was in considerable pain and gave me gas and air straight away (the other gave me paracetemol, which my pain was well beyond by that point) since nobody knew what was going on with me as the other midwife had disappeared they decided to keep me till 9 and then check again. By 9 I was 4cm so they took me to the birth centre, I had a midwife who stayed by my side the whole time (one to one care) and looked throught my birth plan and explained everything to me. Apart from the one terrible midwife I had a good experience in newham, I was looked after and it was clean.
