"Suspected Stroke victim left to root"

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital

Anything else?

Arrived at A&E at around 12:20 am on Tuesday 14th may by ambulance after been rushing in having had a suspected stroke. Left on an A&E stretcher in a side room until 5:30am when the doctor was free to see me. When we asked what te delay was we were told there were only 2 doctors on duty. Disgusting by any account but especially concerning as I am 22 year old patient with a history of having strokes in the past. The lack of intervention could have led to devastating long term side effects. Eventually was seen for all of a few minutes by a doctor who arranged a CT scan. All in all I was left on the A&E just short of 11 hours before been dumped in the medical assesment unit three days whilst the doctors debated what to do with me. Durin that time the doctors carried out a lumber puncture - lossing the first sample leading to a delay in the results being obtained and a second lumber puncture being completed. No results explained - no explanation, the only answer being "we're waitin on Leeds". Well I'm sorry but if a hospital with a dedicated stroke unit is incompetent enough to understand the tests they complete - they should transfer all stroke victims to Leeds. Very concerning that Calderdale Royal feel it is acceptable to provide third hand care. In the end I was moved to 6C were I spent an hour before discharging myself after the nursing staff had no clue why I was their and nearly 24 hours going by since a nurse had last completed an observation. My advice would be if you suspected suffering from a stroke - call 999 and demand to be taken to Leeds.
