"Very unhappy with the care my Mother in Law..."

My 80 year old Mother in Law who suffers from dementia and has a meningioma was admitted recently after having had a seizure at her care facility. At some point within the next week she sustained a fracture of her left arm. The hospital took 4 days to xray the arm and then did not contact me to tell me what was going on (although they said they tried twice - no messages on either home or mobile phone and no missed calls registered). The hospital has tried to fob me off by telling me that the fracture must have been sustained during the seizure when she may have fallen.

I have followed this up with the staff at the care unit and they have confirmed to me that Ma did not leave her bed at all during the seizure.

I requested a safeguarding investigation which, I understand from another source, should have been initiated as soon as the fracture was discovered. They bloked Ma's discharge to her care home for a further week, despite having spent the previous 3 weeks badgering me to find a suitable care home for her. When they did finally discharge her, she arrived at the care home with a supply of drugs that did not have any dosage instructions other than "take as directed"!

This is the third occasion Ma has been at this hospital and each time she comes back worse than she was when she went in.

Just because she is an elderly lady with dementia and a family with other issues so we do not visit regularly, she is overlooked and treated like a waste of space.

I called the hospital today to find out what had happened with the safeguarding investigation to be told that it was still not completed. When I asked to be informed of the outcome, the person I spoke to seemed surprised at the request. Surely it is logical that if I requested the investigation then I would wish to know the outcome.

This is totally ridiculous and unprofessional. I have no knowledge of what kind of care they give other patients but their care of the elderly and infirm is diabolical.
