"Newly diagnosed and spoken to horribly by nurse!"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

Anything else?

I've recently been diagnosed with arthritis and I rang the hospital 24hr line at the rheumatology dept for some advice (I'm not a patient on their records but just wanted general advice) and the nurse who rang me back was so rude and dismissive! They knew I was newly diagnosed therefore should have know I would be emotional and unsure of what the future holds but basically said they wouldn't help. It would be unprofessional and unethical etc as I wasn't on their books! The manner in which I was spoken to was rude, talking over me etc. I didn't realise just asking for a little bit of info on what to expect would be so much of a problem! I'm lucky that I've got private healthcare through my job and have been diagnosed fairly quick but I still pay taxes and to have been spoken to like this has really upset me to the point I was in tears when I put the phone down. I would hope that nurses were caring to all people not just the ones on their books!
