"Premature birth of my twins"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

Had classic symptoms of early labour at 28 weeks, was pregnant with twins, was a high risk pregnancy given the circumstances in which my other children were born in and was supposed to be being kept a close eye on.

I had 3 weeks between appointments at my maternity hospital so hadn't been checked for anything really... I called the labour ward with my symptoms as I knew there was something wrong and was told on the phone to call back if I was in labour, after explaining that two of my children had been born in 15 mins with no signs of any labour pains and followed by haemorrhaging.

Two days later my symptoms worsened. I had a bladder infection that was picked up on delivery, which caused an early labour... c section with no proper time for the injections to help the child's lungs develop to work to their full potential

Had I been called in two days earlier by the midwife I called, my next situation may have been different. Both twins were born, they couldn't find the second one straight away, she wasn't breathing when she came out, suffered brain damage and now at a year old has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

On the neonatal ward, when discussing my situation with the other mums, we all had the same symptoms before going in to labour. I would urge all midwifery staff to please listen to their patients.
