"problems getting telephone calls answered"

Anything else?

have just spent 20 minutes trying to alert the hospital that someone would be unable to make their appointment due to a sickness bug. most calls were timed out with messages saying the call could not be answered- others just had no answer whatsoever and just rang and rang (even on the main switchboard no. )

when i did eventually get an answer on a number they tried to transfer me to the correct department and again no response after several connection attempts and ended up being given the direct number to try again myself.

as there are signs and reports in all NHS premises saying how many missed appointments there are and to please let them know if you cannot make an appointment- this is not a good example when trying to let them know exactly that.

this is an area that either needs to be overhauled or a different system put in place for anyone who need to cancel/ rearrange an appointment due to unforeseen circumstances.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your treatment at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC). We are sorry that we have not covered our future plans for parking in previous comments and we apologise that you have had difficulty in parking at the centre as a result of the current building works. Patients receiving radiotherapy treatment can get a concessionary ticket allowing them to park for a week for £3.40. Please ask at BHOC main reception for more details. This is valid in any hospital car park, unfortunately due to the building work our two nearest car parks are both a short walk away. We are very lucky to have a voluntary driver at BHOC, and if you are feeling tired after treatment and want a lift up the hill please do ask at our main reception desk, and if the driver is available they would be happy to drive you to your car. We know that parking when patients come to our hospitals is a real challenge, particularly due to our city centre location. In planning and designing the new extension the architects were keenly aware of this, and they have designed the new extension so it sits on stilts. Once the building work is complete at the end of this year this will mean that we have parking back on site outside the front of the BHOC. If you would like to look at plans of the new build these are in our main reception area or there is an artist’s impression on our website which shows the parking area: http://www.uhbristol.nhs.uk/media/1792813/view_from_the_almshouse_on_horfield_road.jpg The pay-and-display slots on Horfield Road are public parking and therefore all vehicles can park there, however we have fed back to our contractors the importance of giving patients priority in these areas. Thank you again for taking the time to write, and we are glad to hear that the staff in radiotherapy were lovely.
