"Upset by attitude of paramedic"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology Services NHS 24 Scottish Ambulance Service

(as the patient),

I had to call NHS 24 due to severe pelvic pain. They sent an ambulance out to get me to the hospital.

One of the female paramedics was quite rude to me. I went about my house trying to pack a few necessities in case I was kept back in the hospital, she kept saying how I seemed to be okay cause I could mobilise round the house.

When I got into the ambulance I requested to lie down and she said she queried my needing to lie down? Because I seemed to move round the house without needing help.

I was eventually diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy the next morning. I was appalled at being treated like this even though I was in so much pain.

Dear Cici

I'm really sorry to hear about your distressing and painful experience. I'm also sorry that a member of the crew who responded to you was unsympathetic.

I will share your feedback with senior colleagues. Would it help if we arranged for one of our area service managers to call you to discuss this further? To do this, I'd need your contact details and some information about your call.

You can get in touch with me on 0131 314 0065. In the meantime, I hope you have made a full recovery.

Dear Cici

I am very sorry to read about your recent experience. The Scottish Ambulance Service is best placed to respond to you about this and I can see that they have been in contact with you. I would like to encourage you to get in touch with SAS, as Sharon suggests. It’s very important that all of us working in the NHS across Scotland listen to peoples’ experiences so that we can learn and improve the way we do things.

I hope you are taking the time to recover and wish you well for the future.

With kind regards

Shona
