Anything else?
I was admitted to CCU on the 25/4/13 for chest pains, shortness of breath and dizziness. I was found to be in AF with a fast heart rate.
The care on CCU is outstanding and to be honest it felt like a 5 * hotel. All staff were supportive, communicated with me well, everything was totally spot on and a major credit to the NHS! I stayed in overnight and my AF regulated with treatment, but the doctors put me forward for an MRI the next day to confirm my diagnosis, and to rule out any further damage to my heart. Unfortunately the MRI machine broke down so I was discharged on the 26/4/13, I was told that an MRI scan and follow up appointment with the Cardiologist would be sent out in a week or so in the post.
As I had not received either of the above appointments in over two weeks, I called the hospital this morning to make some enquires. I was told that there has been no referral made for my MRI or outpatient appointment. I was really surprised about this and asked how long I would have to wait. I was told 6-8 weeks, as I am new referral. I explained that on discharge that I was told that I would have to wait 6 weeks, and that was nearly 3 weeks ago! I discussed that the time I have already waited should be taken into account, the member of staff said "I'll see what I can do" and "I will give you a follow up call in a couple of days".
I appreciate that the NHS is under resourced and will have some minor flaws, but I am surprised that this has happened to me. I have contacted (Patient Information and Liaison Service) to see if they can help because currently I am lost in the system.
I hope my perception of this hospital can return to being a positive one, as it was on admission.
"CCU Brilliant, but now a lost in the system!"
