"National standards in hygiene and care not..."

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

Whilst visiting a close (female) relative, I watched in horror as two nurses demonstrated a lack of understanding of basic infection control:

Upon one patient being discharged, two nurses stripped the bed, took no more than 30 seconds to carelessly wipe the mattress with one wet-wipe (it did not seem to occur to them to, at least, wipe the bed frame) and remake the bed. Twenty minutes later a new patient was in the bed and using the locker and table that had not been washed.

Nurses invariably identified patients by bay / bed number rather than (and/or) name.

HRI seems like a throwback to the 1970’s: A truly depressing place and very relieved I no longer live in Hull though I despair and worry for my loved ones whom have to use Hull Royal Infirmary.

Thankfully, the doctors were informative, friendly and understanding. Thank you for the latter but you really need to take steps to improve the overall 24/7 care on the wards.
