I recently took ill whilst working in Cumbria, with chest pains. I was taken to West Cumberland Hospital, where I was quickly seen in the A&E department. The staff were all brilliant, reassuring and informing me of everything that the were doing and why. I was kept in, waiting for the results of a blood test, and after having another episode of chest pain, was quickly admitted to the CCU. The staff were exceptional in their jobs. They were totally attentive, not only to me but all of the many patients they had to care for on the ward. They did everything that they possibly could to ensure that I was cared for and comfortable. This was much appreciated as I live in Newcastle upon Tyne and therefore had no relatives close by for support. One nurse even rang her husband to bring a telephone charger into the hospital for me, which ensured that I was in contact with my husband and family members.

The room that I was in, and ward were continually cleaned, every day. Every surface and piece of equipment was wiped as well as the floor being swept and then mopped.

A menu was given to me every morning to choose my meals for the day. I can honestly say that the meals were really lovely, with the lasagne being the best that I have ever tasted, to name but one.

All in all the experience was one, which although stressful due to the nature of why I was in hospital, was made pleasant, dare I say, by the many dedicated staff that I came in contact with. I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to all of the staff who cared for me on this ward, they are doing an absolutely fantastic job going above and beyond what their duties call for in caring for the patients under their care.
