"Highly thoughtful and professional teams."

About: East Surrey Hospital / Respiratory medicine

(as the patient),

We hear much in the media and from politicians bashing the nursing profession, that they are not trained to give proper care and don't have compassion any more.

I spent three days on Tilgate respiratory ward. Many patients were much sicker than me, needed everything done for them and not in a position to know what was happening to them.

I observed exemplary nursing care, at all times of day and night. Painstaking compassion and highly skilled nursing and clinical interventions. Some patients had crises, which received rapid and expert responses, never chaotic. The impression was of highly thoughtful and professional teams.

Dear Oxted resident

Thank you for your kind words about Tilgate ward which I will ensure are passed to the staff concerned. As you say team work is an essential part of working well and I am glad that you saw this at East Surrey Hospital.

Kind regards

Ian
