"maxillofacial clinic for blocked saliva gland"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

(as the patient),

Have been attending for four years at the maxilofacial clinic for a partially blocked saliva gland. Saw one consultant and was sent for scan which showed the problem. After another visit someone else tried to clear the blockage with what seemed to be a couple of cocktail sticks and without any anaesthetic. Result was a swollen face for three days and no improvement. The consultant issued a prescription for some saliva inducing tablets but the tablets had not been in production for years.

After realising things had not improved I was referred back to the clinic and was seen by a second consultant who sent me for another scan( despite having had one previously). I was informed by the consultant that they would "manage" the condition despite my request for a procedure to insert a stent into the gland. This a half hour procedure and common place in many hospitals. The specialist who did the scan said he would converse with the consultant to find the appropriate treatment. I again stated I wanted a stent putting in. After waiting two weeks for a letter to come I had to phone the secretary of the consultant who had no record of any meeting taking place and no request to send me an appointment. I did get a letter shortly after and attended reccently.

I saw another person who was looking at my scan and informed me that there was nothing wrong with my saliva gland. However I did convince him that I had not been going for four years for no reason and he asked me if I wanted a procedure to which I replied that I did. I am now going to see a "saliva gland specialist" in a coupe of weeks. Why was I referred to these doctors if they are not saliva gland experts, seems the left hand and right hand do not know what they are doing. Four years for a very minor ailment is unbelievable and shows utter complacency for patients, so called experts on huge salaries not doing what they are paid to do. They are box ticking, getting patients in and out in record time. Needs root and branch shake up
