"excellent surgical & anaesthetics team and superb..."

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

Anything else?

I was in on 3rd april 2013 for a planned c-section and I was overwhelmed by the professionalism and dedication of all the teams we came into contact with.

My swift recovery was without doubt down to the excellent surgical and anaesthetics teams as well as the superb nursing on the post natal ward.

Having been quite aprehensive about the surgery, all my fears were unfounded, as the teams made me feel so at ease. They talked me through each stage, and made sure I was comfortable with what they were doing, and then even during the operation, they chatted to me constantly, to keep me at ease. I was so impressed with their professionalism and ability but also with their friendliness and excellent "bedside manner". I cannot rate them highly enough.

I spent just 48 hours on the post natal ward before returning home - not because I was pushed out, but because the standard of nursing was so good, and they gave me the confidence that I was able to return home. My progress forward was at my pace, and only what I was able to do, but they also gave me the confidence and reassurance that I was able to move forward in my recovery.

It was obvious during our visit that the staff on the post natal ward were clearly stretched due to the volume and turnaround of patients. However, to their absolute credit, they maintained utmost professionalism from start to finish. They managed to still tailor the care to the individual and always gave the impression that they had all the time in the world for your care and your concerns, despite the reality. Further, we were allowed to progress at our pace and never were given the impression that we were being pushed out or our recovery was being forced ahead before we were ready, despite the bed shortages.

In short, the staff on the post natal ward, along with the surgical and anaesthetics teams were outstanding. We were so impressed, we have also taken time to do letters of thanks to the heads of nursing and maternity services - despite being sleep deprived new parents!

We wish them all every success in the future, and sincerely thank them for all their help.
