"Recently i had an appointment ..."

About: Kent & Sussex Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Recently i had an appointment to have my knee scraped, painful as it sounds anything was better than scrunching pain when i walked! I arrived on appointed day to find a waiting room gradually filling up with folk also waiting. As one does after waiting an hour or so several of us started talking and i found out from them that opps were delayed on assumption of traffic accident earlier, so surgeons were busy on emergencies.

I felt that the nurses surely should have told us something by now as the room was at full capacity and there was another room where folk were being taken to who were waiting for opps too.

I felt poorly informed, my app was at 12.00 by the time i got to theatre it was 5.00ish I think still none the wiser. A day case that turned into an overnight stay. The whole episode was quite surreal even the choice of walking of being 'wheeled' to the theatre. Once there I walked in theatre I sat on the 'table' feeling very uneasy, was it me? or was this normal practice. The best part of all of it is now. No pain. A brilliant surgeon.

What could be improved

More information regarding any delays going on, to get a 'sorry i don't know' from nurses is not helpful when the clock is ticking and you are getting anxious. Bed space is also limited, i remember that it was hard to find spaces that day for two gentle. More organization needed, you feel a bit out on a limb. Less conversation in theatre about working late too..... i felt as though it was my fault that a certain person had to stay behind! One can hear and remember what is said.
