"NHS wasted money"

About: Lincoln County Hospital Lincoln County Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I attended the eye clinic in Lincoln County Hospital this morning, all went well and I was told I needed to re-attend in 1 year. Previously the Receptionist would give me the new appointment and this has always been the case for years. I was told this morning that the appointment would be posted to me. I cannot understand why the hospital has to waste time and money in writing to me (persons time, postage, paperwork etc) when all the Receptionist had to do was personally give me the appointment. I have to have an early appointment as I have to rely on someone taking me. So I will probanly have to change date and time - all this seems an unnecessary waste of the NHS's time and money. We are told daily that the NHS is strapped for cash. I know this is only a small item but if this happens to everyone the money must amount to a huge amount overall. What a complete an utter waste of our money.

Dear Marcie, thank you for feeding this back to us - you make a fair point - I suspect the sending of the appointment may have something to do with the length of time until your next one - but I have asked someone in the booking department to explain the system to me and I will post an update when they return from leave.

You make a fair point too about when the appointment comes through that you make have to change it and there is a way to do this without too much difficulty; we are currently reviewing the scheduling and booking processes as we recognise it is frustrating for many people and have been using patient feedback to help us with that review, so your posting is valuable to us.

I will get back to you as soon as I hear something.
