My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the start of December 2011. We are a close family, my parents live 3 miles from me. My mother, father and I are all only children. The day my father was taken off chemo because it made no difference, I couldn't cope.
I didn't go in to work, I tried to collect my 6 year old from child care whilst I was under the influence of alcohol. My father was in and out of hospital for a year, his best period was 5 weeks at home, during the summer.
He was admitted to hospital at the start of December 2012 (an 87 mile round trip). They removed many of his bodily functions and used bags and drips to remake them. I fell apart and had 7 weeks off work. After a night in police custody I agreed to try Addaction - my father died the following morning - 6 January 2013.
Without Simon, my Addaction support worker, I don't think I'd still be here. I have made progress (with some setbacks). You have been my hope and salvation, and treated me with humour and kindness. Excellent.
