I had injured my ankle and was unsure if it was broken.
I attended the Minor Injuries unit at the Kent and Canterbury hospital. The reception staff were polite and efficient. I was seen extremely quickly considering how busy it was.
The nurse practitioner on duty was very knowledgeable and reassuring. It was clear that he was very busy as he was the only person on duty, yet he was able to juggle a large caseload and provide quality care.
The radiographer was also polite, professional and worked in a client centred manner. The HCA/support worker was equally polite and efficient.
I was given time to ask questions and discuss my diagnosis with the Nurse Practitioner, and clarity of my x-ray was gained from the radiographer via telephone; demonstrating good collaborative working.
I was in and out the hospital within 2 hours. Sent on my way with pain killers and crutches for a badly sprained ankle.
This was a highly positive experience and as a health professional myself it was reassuring to be on the receiving end of good NHS practice.
