"A very poor service"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

Anything else?

On Monday I was told I needed an operation on my broken ankle. After waiting over a week for an appointment, the bone has moved out of place. Today is Thursday and I have not yet had the operation. After three days on the 'trauma list' in severe pain I have been told yet again to come and wait in the Surgical Day Care Unit see if they can 'fit me in'. On Tuesday I waited for seven hours, three in an uncomfortable waiting room, four in a different area, already in a hospital gown, before being told to go home. Each day I am told to fast from midnight. I'm typing this at 4am as I cannot sleep due to the pain in my foot. Although I understand that more serious trauma patients have priority I do not understand why I cannot be offered any sort of alternative. My husband has now had to take three days off work to ferry me to and from the hospital. I broke my arm several years ago and was treated my local hospital, Burnley. I was operated on immediately. It is now almost 2 weeks since my accident. Unfortunately I feel there are simply not the staff or the facilities at Blackburn hospital to cope with the size of the catchment area.
