About: Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as the patient),

Parkwood has lots of caring staff but you need to deal with incidents better when it comes to patients being aggressive or arguing.

Thank you for your posting, informing us that you feel Parkwood has a lot of caring staff, I will make sure that this is fed back to the Modern Matron. I am sorry you experienced patients being aggressive or arguing I will make sure the ward managers are informed so they can support the teams to deal with this.

We very much appreciate the feedback. In mental health wards, sometimes service users can behave aggressively. To manage this as safely as possible, the Violence Reduction Team works closely with the wards to promote open and honest learning environments, where we can collectively reflect upon our practice and enhance service user and staff safety.

We welcome involvement from service users and carers within our training which aims to promote violence reduction and prevention strategies whilst learning from real life experiences. We are also encouraging and developing the use of regular de-briefs, to not only reflect but also provide support for those involved in violent and aggressive incidents and witnesses to the incidents, including service users and carers.
