"Hip replacement surgery after accident"

About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

Anything else?

I am 75 years old, and fell recently, breaking my hip, which necessitated having a hip replacement. I spent about 12 hours in the very well-equipped A & E department having X-rays and some preliminary treatment before having surgery the following morning.

I was treated with respect and care by all the staff and was impressed by their patience with some very difficult patients. Care was taken to give help with feeding those who had difficulty. The ward was kept spotlessly clean at all times.

Nights were usually noisy, and one night was particularly disturbing when three patients in the ward all caused considerable problems for the staff, who coped well, and apologised to me for the disturbance.

Staff delivering meals quite often did not remember to offer hand-cleaning solutions.

Some hip replacement patients I have spoken to received cards giving details of their hip operation, but I did not receive one, and was only given drug and exercise sheets when I left hospital.
