The whole staff from domestic to trained clinical were excellent. Checks were made constantly and pain killers etc offered regularly. No-one could have been more terrified than me at the thought of going into hosptal for a very major operation but I need not have worried so much.

The standard of cleanliness was exceptional, certainly in Ward 31.

I have only three slightly detrimental comments to make.

1, The food, although through no fault of the catering staff, was inedible. It was served as attractively as they could but it seems they are working with poor quality ingredients. The idea of self service breakfast and lunch was good, providing elderly, or bed-bound patients are not overlooked. Why not provide less choice but better basic quality.

2, It was extremely noisy at night, and sounded like workmen crashing about.

3, The walk from Ward 11 on admission right through to the theatre suite is unnerving. I always assumed you were anaesthetised in the bed provided on admission and knew no more until you recovered back in that same bed. Perhaps the logistics of the hospital are something to do with that.
