My son had a bad accident in August 2012 and badly broke his arm just above his elbow. The ambulance response time was great and the paramedics were wonderful with me and him. The wait in A & E was a bit longer than I would have liked before he was seen by a Dr but as it was a Friday night I'm guessing they were busy. Once the x-rays were seen though everything moved quickly. The decision was made to operate on him the next morning as it was about 11pm and there wouldn't be full staffing. All the staff we saw on A & E were very good, particularly the nurse who plastered my son's arm - I'm sorry but I can't remember her name now.

The staff on Nightingale Ward were fantastic and really looked after us. My son was very scared before the op but the surgeon was great with him and spoke to him to try to help to calm him down. The staff were very good with myself and his dad whilst we waited for him to come back from the op and were great when he came back. They all helped to make a very horrible situation bearable and helped to stop me from worrying too much.

Due to the nature of the break we had several visits back to outpatients to get his arm checked/k-wires removed. Each time all the staff were wonderful - my son was very upset to get his temporary cast removed and the staff in the plaster room were very good with him - very patient and kind and encouraging - he was even given a teddy as he was so upset, which he still treasures - thank you.

I would like to pass on a huge thank you to the surgeon not only for his skills in fixing my son's arm but also for his care and kindness to him each time we saw him. He understood just how scary it all was to my son and always treated him with kindness and concern - my son still talks about how nice he is. There are numerous examples but the main one was when he had to have his k-wires removed and my son was very scared and upset - the surgeon was great with him and so was the male nurse who was with him - also that day we had to go into x-ray again and the nurse we saw in there was really good with my son as well. The surgeon also took the time to ring us at home to check how things were when a local Dr had concerns that my son may have an infection in his arm.

I cannot express my thanks enough to the staff at the hospital for all their help and support.
