"Fantastic Service and Nurses that go above beyoned the call of duty"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Accident and emergency South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

(as a carer),

There has been a lot of negative comments and news with regard to the NHS. Mostly we see information on things that have gone wrong – all around the world. Now is the time for something positive!

This year I have had to call out an ambulance for my wife, not just once, but four times. Also an out of hours doctor has attended to her three times this year.

Each time, both the ambulance staff AND the doctors on call, did everything that they could. My wife has asthma AND wildly fluctuating blood pressure.

When she entered A&E she was very well looked after, even though there was massive overcrowding. The staff looked after my wife – and all the other patients – with tea and sandwiches, on top of their regular duties.

My wife was admitted the weekend 6/9th April, to the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), where she was continually monitored and had many blood tests and ECG’s. Two nurses (Amanda and Karen) in particular, stand out. This was not only from their caring, but (and sometimes more importantly) in their happy attitude, together with ‘I’m here to help you’ – but not even just that – they showed that they wanted to help! The doctors were also fantastic, by doing not only their best, but explaining everything, so that we clearly understood what was happening.

This is at a hospital that has had some bad press, and much in the way of negative comments. I hope that in some way we can address the balance, because the hospital is the EAST SURREY HOSPITAL.

THANK YOU Ambulance staff and the doctors and nurses. You are brilliant! If there is a cure for wildly fluctuating blood pressure, please let me know. I want my wife back.

Dear 'Gorbro'

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experiences at the hospital. I am glad that we have helped you and your wife during what must be a very difficult time for you both. I will pass on your thanks to Amanda and Karen, the two nurses you mention. I am sure they will be delighted to receive your thanks.

Many thanks
