On Saturday 19th January 2013, my 6yr old daughter Milly, suffered a supra condular fracture of her right elbow. She was taken from Queen Mary by ambulance to your hospital, where she stayed the night and was operated on by a doctor early the next morning. Milly needed 2 k wires inserted. This was a very emotional time for all involved, especially for Milly. She was seen 4 weeks later by the doctor who had since written letters to Milly's GP documenting every procedure and decision that had taken place, regarding Milly's fracture. He also sent us home (to Herne Bay, Kent) with a letter to enable physiotherapy to take place where Milly lives. Throughout Milly's journey from admission to referral and follow up appointments, I have been astounded by the level of care that Milly and us, her family have received. We were well-informed concerning Milly's fracture and her future care throughout. I am a true believer in giving credit where credit is due and so wish to thank the doctor for his impeccable surgery and children skills, all the nurses on Safari Ward who made Milly's stay a memorable one-showing person centred care and compassion throughout. The nice chap in the plaster room who removed Milly's cast and applied a new one, all the time talking her through the procedure and even finding glitter for her! Last but certainly not least, the doctor, for his superb communication, professional collaboration and overall, the person centred care that he displayed, which was so evident in the care of my daughter Milly. The level of personal interaction, was unmatched, enabling her to feel safe and re-assured, so much so, that she wished to travel the hour and a half journey back to your Queen Elizabeth Hospital, for the doctor to remove her wires, rather than a doctor to remove them locally. She has healed superbly and as a result of the fantastic care she was given by the staff at Queen Elizabeth hospital in Woolwich, I have no doubt in my mind, that Milly (and indeed her twin sister), will look upon this hospital experience, as a pleasant and reassuring one, which could have so easily have been otherwise.
