"Treatment for cancer in elderly"

About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

Anything else?

My mother is receiving regular treatment in the Haematology Day Unit. All the staff there are helpful and take time to explain treatments and medication and keep me up to date on medical issues. She also see the consultant at Farnham Outpatients, unfortunately this is often running late and rushed due to large numbers of patients attending.

Although the medical treatment is excellent, there is a lack of emotional and psychological support for elderly patients who need more time and are often confused about treatments. My mother has a carer, me, which means I can keep up with all the information on her behalf, but I think it would be very difficult for someone on their own and I am not sure the treatment would be managed effectively and successfully. I am sure this is not just a problem at Frimley but at all hospitals.
