"Laparoscopy - Daycase at Birmingham Women's Hospital"

About: Birmingham Women's Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was admitted for a planned diagnostic laparoscopy to the daycase ward at the start of January 2013.

What was good?

From my outpatient appointment until the day of the operation, I only had to wait around 4 weeks, which I was very impressed with. Throughout my stay, all of the nursing staff, theatre staff and doctors were lovely. I was incredibly nervous, and a lovely student nurse came to theatre with me to support me, and the theatre porter was also very kind. The emotional support provided was the most positive part of my experience. I was also given pain and sickness relief as soon as I needed it, and encouraged to drink plenty of water. The staff checked on me frequently throughout the day and night as I'd had complications, and I felt very well looked after.

What could be better?

I never received a proper account of what was found during my operation, or a letter afterwards to say what was found. I still only have a brief outline after finding out at my outpatients appointment. The doctor did come and see me afterwards though, and gave me a brief outline.

Overall, I felt very satisfied and pleased with my care, especially the nursing care. I would feel fine about staying at this hospital again
