"Miscarriage "

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Maternity unit

(as the patient),

I feel my care was terrible.

I was left for 2 weeks, with my dead 10 week baby inside of me as when I originally called them about a small bleed, they all assured me this was normal and did not give me a scan until 5 days later to find out my baby had no heart beat. They then left me a further 7 days before they gave me a D&C.

But to top it all off, when I read my leaflet when I got home I should have had an injection due to my blood type, because if I don't this can effect future pregnancies. So I called to have a nurse tell me I did not have this blood type but due to having a 2 year old, I know I need this injection. But I left it as they are the professionals - only to get a call the next day and advised I had to go in there had been a mistake!

I have my first midwife appointment very soon as I am in the early stages of pregnancy but I will be demanding my files be passed to my previous midwife and all scans at St John's.

I'm afraid I would not trust them with my unborn child's care.

Hi, can I apologise in the delay in responding to your posting, I would also like to offer my sincere apologies for your loss.

Without your personal details it is difficult to offer an individual response. However there are some points that may be informative.

When there is a small amount of bleeding in early pregnancy it may not be necessary to scan immediately. Appointments are normally arranged within 72hrs of contacting Early Pregnanacy Assessment Service ( EPAS) with the patient usually asked to re contact if any change to symptoms.

Should the pregnancy not measure in accordance with the Last Menstrual Period on initial scan at EPAS, a repeat scan would be arranged for 14 days. If a pregnancy loss is confirmed a discussion around options will be undertaken. Depending on the history and findings, if a D&C is chosen, it can be 7 days before the procedure is carried out. I appreciate how distressing this is.

With regards anti-D injection. This is not routinely given before 12 weeks but should be administered for rhesus negative mothers after a surgical evacuation. We apologise this did not happen at the time.

The team will be happy to support you, should you choose to book at St Johns.

Should you wish to discuss any concerns further please contact me ( Arlian ) directly on 07827820353.
