"Caring, Professional and Spotless"

About: North Devon District Hospital

Anything else?

My son was recently admitted via A&E for an emergency appendectomy while we were on holiday in Devon. We visited A&E at 3am on a Saturday night and despite the usual plethora of "night out injuries" we were seen within 10 mins of arriving and my son was immediately admitted into the Fortescue Ward for treatment. The A&E staff were friendly and professional. Once on the ward he was immediately treated with painkillers and antibiotics and the consultant kept him fully informed. The ward was spotless, the staff friendly and professional and my son very well cared for. The consultant called me personally after his surgery (due to urgent priorities it was postponed until 11pm that night) to reassure me and give me details as to the operation and outcomes. Overall very pleased with all aspects of the help and support given - a wonderful, helpful, spotless hospital with friendly professional staff - thank you very much from a very relieved mother!

Dear Anonymous

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your families recent experience. It must have been a very worrying time for you when your son became ill, especially as you were on holiday and unfamiliar with the hospital.

Visiting the emergency department on a Saturday night can often be stressful for patients and families alike, as it can be very busy, such as in this instance, however I was very pleased to see that your son received such prompt and professional treatment, at such a busy time. From reading your comments I can see you were kept fully informed, regarding his care and treatment, at all times during your son's attendance both in A&E and again later during his ward stay - especially important at what was a very anxious time for you all.

I have shared your comments with both the A&E and Fortescue ward managers, so they are able to share your positive feedback with staff. I hope your son has now made a full recovery following his surgery, and that you get the chance to visit Devon again.

Jayne
