"6 hour wait to be seen"

About: John Radcliffe Hospital

Anything else?

When I asked why my husband had to wait nearly six hours from the appointment time to be seen I was told that the reason for an early appointment & wait, was that we might have got in earlier if someone else didn’t turn up. This does not make any sense as he was staying in overnight anyway. So why wasn’t his appointment later? and how can you run a business for patients based on just in case management and be at the mercy of someone else turning up or not? Its not fair nor ethical nor good management.

This also meant I waited 10 hours in total for my husband's treatment to complete so I could see him on the ward after surgery at 20.45. As soon as I walked through the door on the ward, obviously worried for him after the surgery, I was told to leave immediately because visiting time was over. Unbelievable.

We are so sorry that you have had cause to comment about the length of wait your husband experienced at the John Radcliffe Hospital. We would very much like to look into this issue on his behalf, and would ask you to please contact us in person to discuss it, as we would need to know more details.

Would you be prepared to contact us directly, so that we can pursue this further? If so, please get in touch with Rebecca Turner, Specialist Surgery Matron, at rebecca.turner@ouh.nhs.uk
