"Hospital Comment"

About: Birmingham Dental Hospital

Anything else?

After severe illness, a serious gum conditions had dramatically deteriorated - literally, teeth were falling out; telephone periodontal, explain the problem, they tell me get a referral...the only dentist available at short notice is private; after exam, they tell me what i know already and contacts BDH immediately; they then write to me telling them that BDH will not see me because i had not cared properly for my condition. And anyway, they cannot afford to take on a patient. BDH told me only that i needed a referral - did not tell me i would be punished for being ill - it knew how urgent my situation was. PALS merely supported everything that BDH had done, tho i explained that very severe illness had accelerated the problem, not stupidity, not laziness, not poor hygiene, PALS support of the spiteful actions of the hospital, irrespective of the health and financial costs to myself - is the most sickening aspect of this whole vile mess.

I am sorry you are disappointed by the response you have received from Birmingham Dental Hospital, and that you feel the PALS response was unhelpful. Birmingham Dental Hospital considers each patient referral individually, including whether any treatment has already been undertaken to address the issue, before making a clinical decision on the most appropriate course of action. In your situation, you have described how the hospital has declined your referral, and a full explanation why it has been declined will have been provided to the referrer. You are therefore recommended to speak to your dentist about your referral and discuss the options available to you at this time. If you wish to speak to someone in the Trust about the response from the PALS service please contact Alison Last via email alison.last@bhamcommunity.nhs.uk or phone 0121 466 7128.
