I attended A+E recently we were booked in and sat in the waiting room at 7.50 a.m. I was called in fairly soon and was seen by a nurse she was very kind and asked me what had happen. I had fallen to the pavement the night before landing really badly on my left arm I had a terrible night and was in some distress with the pain in my arm I could not move it or bear anyone near it. After asking me some general questions about my health and medication. allergies etc she immediately gave me some pain relief paracetamol and an anti inflammatory tablet she aske me where the pain was I could not rota my arm and she decided that I would require and xray. I only had to wait a short time and my forearm and upper arm was xrayed. When the xray was developed a male Dr called me into the cubicle he asked me what had happened he examined me asking me to turn around and raise my arms in the air he then held both hand and slowly push them towards my elbow I soon yelled for him to stop as my left arm would not bend he then asked me to do the same without his help this I did but only limited the movement on my left arm. The Dr told me that I have not broken anything I explained that my thumb, forearm and whole arm and my ribs were really painful. He informed me that this was because of the force of the fall. He then told my husband and myself that if it had been down to him he wouldn't have xrayed my arm at all. He then said that he would check the xray but didn't really see the point. We watched from the cubicle as he looked over the xray upper arm and forearm but not the wrist. He then returned to us and said 'No nothing broken, No fracture' he told me to go home and rest it up and take painkillers. I really felt that I had wasted his time although I was releived to be told there was no fracture. I went home and slept took painkillers felt really sick but rested and could not go to work as I was not well enough and cold drive anyway.

It is now the week beginning the 18/3/2013 and I still cannot bend my arm or open a door with the handle my arm is stiff and painful expecially at night. I went to my local MIU in Glastonbury on Tuesday of this week and saw the Nurse Practitioner they tried to access the xray on the Pacs but could not view it but they did manage to get the consultants report they have informed me that the report says there was a line on my xrayed arm and it was not conclusive if it was a fracture. They told me that If I could not bend my arm then it was probably broken they put my arm into a Joslin sling and made me an appointment in the fracture clinic for the 28/3 2013.

If I do have a fracture then I will feel truely badly let down by the Dr that saw me. I have really suffered and have been trying to excercise my arm as it was so stiff because of course I was told there was no fracture. I have supported it and have felt really miserable.
