"I was in ward 8b for five days ..."

About: Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was in ward 8b for five days and I found the nurses and staff were brilliant. Also I was very impressed with the catering. The menu's were excellent especially chefs recipe and the soups were very very good. The hospital itself is rather shabby and the window areas were very dirty but mostly it was kept clean and tidy. I know you have to keep patients warm but the heat in the ward was sometimes unbearable when the the huge radiators blast out full heating. Surely this must breed germs, maybe an extra blanket would suffice. I was quite lucky as I was able to be near a window and get some air.

Many thanks for your comments, the Catering Team is pleased to receive such positive comment about the meals we provide as a Trust and the nursing team on Ward 8b were pleased to hear your comments.

With regard to the points you raise about the building itself, these issues are fully recognised by the Trust, which is why we have an on-going rolling programme of updating all of the wards in this part of Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Most recently the Trust has completed work on ward 1b. When a ward is refurbished this includes replacing both the windows and the heating system, which is replaced with modern, controllable heating which can be turned down on individual radiators which will improve the situation. Other parts of the ward which are included in the refurbishment programme are the bathroom facilities, flooring and decor.
