I am quite surprised that a large hospital such as QE should allow smoking in the area surrounding the access doorway to clinics. A large number of patients suffering from a variety of breathing difficulties have to walk through smoke infused air to reach the hospital.

The area between the car park and the doorway is literally littered with smokers that are impossible to avoid!!

Come on QE move these smokers elsewhere. The area between car park and out-patients should be clean and smoke free

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. We welcome all feedback and would like to assure you that all comments are taken seriously and acted upon as part of our ongoing commitment to improving patient experience.

We are very sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the presence of people smoking outside the main entrance to the hospital. This is an issue that we have found particularly challenging to address but have given significant thought to.

The trust is currently in the process of procuring smoking shelters for the front entrance and outside the Clinical Decisions Unit. Anyone smoking outside these entrances will be asked to use the smoking shelter. This is not something that can be enforced however as it is not illegal to smoke outside a public building and people will undoubtedly exercise their choice whether to use the smoking shelters or not.

The Trust currently ensures that these areas are kept as clean and tidy as possible with regular checks made throughout the day.
