"Late running appointments"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I had an appointment with the Colorectal Surgery Outpatient Department late yesterday afternoon. On arrival, at the correct time, I was advised that the clinic was running slightly behind. I asked approximately how far behind and was advised that the delay was currently at 2 hours and he had not finished his afternoon clinic. I know from previous experience that delays are always underestimated so realistically we were looking at 2-3 hours from my appointment time. I am sure me turning up 2-3 hours after my appointment would not be acceptable so why would it be assumed that I will accept this kind of delay. Perhaps ringing and cancelling some appointments would be better.

Thank you for taking time to share your experience on the Patient Opinion website.

I am sorry that you experienced delays in the Colorectal Outpatient clinic. I will ensure the responsible manager is made aware in order to investigate the matter further.

Kind regards

John Goodenough

Director of Nursing

Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at
