"Terrible care at A&E"

Had to visit A&E after seeking advice from my GP, NHS Direct and A&E themselves regarding my daughter passing out several times after suffering from sickness bug.

I did not want to attend hospital from fear of passing this onto others and i have got the common sense to know that i should try and keep my daughter hydrated however this was not possible as she could not keep anything down. I was told by the A&E on the phone to bring her straight over when i arrived we had to be seen by the nurse in the assessment room.

My daugtehr was seen by a nurse before being sent to the GP in A & E . I compalined to the nurse that i do not want to see the GP as i was advised to come to the hopsital because of my daughter passing out. She was very rude and said your daughter is not dehydrated .I asked why has she passed out cold several times then. She replied take it up with the GP when you see them. I went and sat back outside in the A&E area for at least another hour when i was ushered into the corner by a locum doctor who had been present in the room when i complained. They advised me that my daughter should have been passed to A&E and they would pass her details over to them right away. I waited in total 3 and half hours before she was actually seen to by this time she was very dehydrated and distressed as she felt like she had flu symptoms, she was in a lot of discomfort from back pain etc . On entering A&E the was put on fluids intravensly and althought the locum doctor was pleasant i felt they were trying to make light of the situation. My daughter was left on the bed with no pillow or blanket she was shivering and ached all over she looked dreadful and although she didi not complain no one came to ask her if she was ok i sat with her and put my coat over her. The doctor asked me why she had not had her blood taken i said i do not know they then tried to take a blood sample using a glove to tie around her arm this did not bring the vein up and two attempts later they got a little blood. I felt like the whole hospital vist had been a shambles from start to finish the nurse had made it quite clear that she did not like the fact that the doctor had passed my daughter over to A&E. My daughter was dehydrated and was treated for her sickness and dehydration we finally left the hospital 7 hours later. I feel if teh nurse had done her job propaerly and passed my daughter on to A&E in teh first place none of tis would have happened. I was informed that my daughter would be kept away from others due to novo virus she was not we sat in A&E for almost four hours. The whole experience was the worst i have witnessed they were uncaring and rude. We do not use A&E as a joke my daughter last went there 7 years ago. I do feel however that the nurse should be more professional towards patients a smile or kind word does not cost anything.
