My 81 year old Grandmother went into the Planned Investigation Unit at the PRUH on her Birthday for a pre-planned investigation in the morning. She was having an Endoscopy (ERCP) in order to try and remove several large and complexed situated Gallstones in her Bile Duct. We were pre warned that if unsuccessful it would be necessary to have her referred to a specialist Hospital in London.

An hour later my Grandmother was in Recovery recuperating from the Anesthetic. We were later informed the procedure, although complex and lengthy, was a success and had managed to remove and blast all of her Gallstones to which we were all relieved as the first attempt a few months prior was unsuccessful and a Stent was required as a tempoary solution.

My Grandmother is now at home feeling much better and has no more abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting nor does her face look jaundice. Overall we were very pleased with the Gastroenterologists which we saw within the team especially the one who got the 'ball rolling' during an Outpatients appointment; when he saw how unwell she looked. Within an hour they had managed to get her bed within a Surgical Ward where she was put on a drip and had blood tests to make sure her Liver was ok given how Jaundice she was looking. Please pass on our thanks for their intervention and efficiency and to the doctor for such professional surgical skills and expertise for carrying out such a complex procedure on an elderly lady.

Finally just some advice; after the procedure was completed nobody informed us of the outcome and instead we had to look for a Nurse/Sister within the PIU. A letter was supposed to have been handed to us advising of the outocome during discharge but this never happened so we had to telephone to chase.
