About: Kingston Hospital

Anything else?

I had photo therapy treatment in the physiotherapy department I was very unhappy about how I was being treated. I requested that I would prefer to be treated by someone else which was rejected because there was only one person that was trained to do this treatment. I then requested that if this was not possible I would like to be transferred to another hospital, which was also refused. If I had chosen the option the manager had given me which was to go back to my GP to be re referred this would mean that there would be a possible gap of a few weeks or more where I would not be treated, which could potentially have affected my health. In Feb 2013 my appointment time was 8.50am, I arrived late as I had lost my wallet on my way to my appointment I arrived at 8.55am and was refused to be seen at that time but was offered to been seen 6 hours later. The member of staff I spoke to was defending themselves, because of the feedback I gave to the manager I had spoken with about how I felt I was treated. . The dermatologist wrote to my GP outlining the 50 sessions of treatments of photo therapy, after which I would be discharged back to the care of my GP. During this period because I was treated in the physiotherapy dept no one in my view in photo therapy dept was qualified to look at my skin. When I asked for someone to check my skin I was advised to see a doctor. Because I was still under the care of the dermatologist I then went to the out patient dept and booked an appointment myself. Which turned out to be important because I went to see a consultant for dermatology who then advised to stop the facial photo therapy treatments?

I felt the dermatologist in my view could have written to my GP advising that I should be monitored at some stage through the treatment sessions. After this experience I do not feel assured that this the best service the hospital can provide in the dermatology and photo therapy clinics. I think there should be a neutral review of the procedures of patient care.
