"Mainly great, just a couple of niggles"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

Anything else?

I work at another hospital, so I know the pressures the hospitals in general are under. I was ill at work in November, and sent to my GP's, who did an ECG and sent me to the GP assessment unit. Once there, they where expecting me, and I was asked to take a seat. Within a couple of minutes a nurse came over, and took me behind a curtain, again did an ecg, took bloods and I was sent for an x-ray. I then had a 2hr wait for all my results to come through. In that time I was asked if I wanted something to eat, and drink. The nurses where lovely!!! The one thing I didn't like, was in the small enclosed seating area, the doctor gave me my results, whilst I was sat there, with the room half full of other people, all looking at me, listening to my diagnosis. What happened to pt confidentiality? He explained that one of my blood results was slightly high, and could be an indicator of a pulmonary embolism, although he didn't think this was likely. Still, he put me on the treatment for it, until I could be booked in for my scan. The advice and instructions given by the nurse on the unit was excellent. I then went up everyday for my injections(it was offered for me to do them myself at home, but with my fear of needles, there was no chance I could do it), and the 2 nurses in the anti-coagulant dept where absolutely brilliant!!! I got my scan date for a week later, at the dept of nuclear medicine. Again, the staff here was absolutely fantastic. They let my husband in with me without even having to ask, which was great, as I knew again, there would be a needle involved. (they say nhs staff make the worst patients). I got my results on the same day (although I did have to wait for a couple of hours, but rather this then a couple of days). Again the doctor was great, and understanding, and answered all my questions thoroughly. A big thank-you, and I would appreciate it if all relevant departments throughout could be praised individually.
