About: Whiston Hospital

Anything else?

My recent visit to Whiston hospital for referred specialist surgical treatment to 2 damaged fingers of my left hand, following an accident with a router, proved to be a stimulating and memorable experience, with none of the anticipated anxiety usually associated with a hospital appointment.

From first entering the hospital to my subsequent arrival on Ward 3A, the dominant feeling was one of calmness and a sense of being in the best place possible to resolve my sustained injuries to the best possible degree.

All of the nursing staff I met were friendly, approachable, and extremely concerned about the injuries I presented with, and clearly did everything they could to reassure me that the end result would be a restoration of the damage sustained. The highlight of the day was meeting with the surgeon in theatre for the surgical procedures to be undertaken, and all fears and worries dissolved into complete trust as the first injection was made. Throughout the entire procedure I was reassured that all was going well, and I quickly found myself relaxing into a most bizarre state of mind as the surgery proceeded in a controlled and calm manner, with obvious professional standards upheld to the highest levels throughout the hour long procedure. It was a testament to the surgeon's expertise that such micro surgery could be undertaken with simply administered local anaesthesia to control pain levels and allow me to experience comfort throughout the procedure.

Eventually I could sense that dressings were being applied to the affected fingers and the visit to theatre would soon be at an end, however I can truthfully say that I actually enjoyed the experience, secure in the knowledge that I was in safe hands.

Such has been the impact of my first experience of the clinical expertise available to all at Whiston hospital that I am already looking forward to my return visit in a week to experience the unique standards of treatment once again. Be assured, you will be well looked after and treated with respect and care as your treatment plan unfolds.
