"Wheelchairs and smoking"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute)

Anything else?

I took my wife for an appointment last Tuesday and this went very well.

What did not go well was the amount of time it took for me to locate a wheelchair. Eventually the volunteer behind the desk found me one. I thought all NHS areas were supposed to be nonsmoking but there were two people sitting outside the entrance near A&E in hospital wheelchairs and puffing away. The smell was horrible and the ground covered in fag ends.

Shouldnt wheelchairs be used for patients what need them and shouldnt the nosmoking policy be inforced?

Staff were great though.

Many thanks for your comments, and we're sorry that you had difficulty in locating a wheelchair. We are aware of the problem with smokers, and we are doing what we can to prevent it - unfortunately we don't have the resource to do this on a full-time basis.
