Anything else?
My elderly mother was admitted to east ham/ west ham ward in january of this year (2013) with a chest infection, and problems with mobility. There were 5 patients on my mums ward and only one nurse to care for all of them! A couple of times if i hadnt been there the nurse would have given my mum the wrong medication, its only that i questioned it then the nurse realised their mistake. It was a agency nurse. The lady in the bed next to my mum asked the nurse that she needs to go to the toilet, the lady was seen to an hour later! Another patient on the ward was supposed to have a nurse with her at all times because she tends to wonder and fall, the nurse that was with her finished her duty so the elderly lady was left on her own and fell right in front of me, then all of a sudden about 10 nurses come running into the ward (otherwise none of them are ever available), anyway they got the lady up off the floor and into bed, my sister explained to the nurse how the lady fell then one of the nurses said "well at least she didnt fall out of bed"! Does that make it any better? She still fell when she was supposed to be supervised! Because me and my sister witnessed the fall the nurses called security to have us thrown out! I wasnt happy with the so called 'care' my mother received at newham general (university) hospital, the nurses on that ward are soooooo rude! Always have a chip on their shoulder, if you dont like the job then get out, dont take your stresses and tensions out on elderly vulnerable patients! I would never recommend this hospital to anyone ever!
