"Stroke care at leeds general infirmary needs to be improved"

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital / General medicine Leeds General Infirmary / Cardiac surgery Leeds General Infirmary / General medicine

(as a relative),

My husband went in for heart surgery on 6th may. He had complications and spent 10days on the heart ward, then 22days on the vascular ward. He received excellent care.

Unfortunately, he had a stroke and was sent to the acute stroke ward. He felt the care there was appalling. I just felt some of the staff treat the patients as though they were idiots and with no feeling. I have made a formal complaint. Thankfully, they sent my husband to another hospital and that was excellent.

Leeds really needs to pull ward 37 up to the standard of the rest of the hospital.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your husband's recent experience. I am sorry to hear that some of this was unsatisfactory.

I shall pass your comments onto the Patient Relations Department at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.
