"Be prepared to fight for basic care at this..."

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

Anything else?

My father has been in St Margaret’s ward for over two and half weeks. He was discharged prematurely after a few days and had to be readmitted. Regrettably he has terminal cancer but has treatable complications which need to be addressed before longer term care can be arranged. His treatment within the hospital to date has been appalling. He has fallen twice in bathrooms although he has a history of falls and has now recently fallen out of bed. He has not been assisted in eating and drinking, which is a topic highlighted in the press recently. There seems to be a culture of not caring or addressing basic patient needs within this ward and probably the whole hospital. We had hoped he would have some quality of life a the end but this is now looking highly unlikely and our main concern is now getting him away from this dreadful hospital before he succumbs to the treatment and care he has not been received to date.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback, and I am sorry that you are unhappy with the care that your father has been receiving on St Margaret's ward. If you would like me to follow this through for you and your family then please email me on Julie.pearce1@nhs.net and I will arrange to make contact with you for a discussion.
